Traditional Hungarian dishes

Discover the masterpieces of Hungarian cuisine and impress your guests with our specialties

Casino eggs

Casino eggs (devilled eggs) are prepared using ground spices, aromatic smoked paprika and given a gourmet touch by the addition of some artisan wild garlic mustard, making this is a finger food par excellence.

Ham rolls

From Erika with love, Ham Rolls are a delicious appetizer made deli ham, cream cheese, some secret spices and vetetables. They are salty, addictive, and the perfect tasty bite!

Goulash soup

Goulash is a soup of (beef) meat and vegetables seasoned with paprika, cumin seeds and other spices. Originating in Hungary, goulash is a common meal predominantly eaten in Central Europe but also in other parts of Europe. It is one of the national dishes of Hungary and a symbol of the country.

Hungarian fish soup

In Hungary fish soup (halászlé) is one of the most popular Christmas dishes. Hungarian fish soup halászlé is a hot soup prepared with mixed river fish, paprika and onion. The meal originates from Slavic cuisine. Traditionally, fish soup is prepared in a small kettle on an open fire by real fishermen.

Stuffed cabbage

Hungarian stuffed cabbage (töltött káposzta) come in many variations, the filling can be ground beef or pork mixed with rice, the sauce can be plain or tomato based and adding smoked meat and/or sausage will only enhance the flavor. It is even better reheated.

Chicken paprika

One of the most famous and beloved of all Hungarian dishes. This authentic Chicken “Paprikash” prepared with tender chicken in an unforgettably rich, flavorful and creamy paprika-infused sauce! It’s pure heaven!

Beef stew

The Hungarian beef stew (Marhapörkölt) is a prime example of how just a few simple ingredients can render the most delicious flavor. The basic Hungarian “pörkölt” consists of onions sauteed in fat, meat and paprika slow-simmered in a little water and the result is simple fabulous.

"Stephanie" roast

The Hungarian “stefánia vagdalt” with the egg in the middle is a variation on meatloaf, but amazing what a different reaction it can get with the egg inside it.

Giant schnitzel

“Schnitzel” is a slice of meat breaded and fried. The meat is usually thinned by pounding with a meat tenderizer, and is breaded before frying. Schnitzel is popular in many countries and is made using veal, pork, chicken, mutton, beef, or turkey.

Roast duck legs

One of our favorite dishes is the duck steak, quite precisely the roast duck leg, which has red-crispy skin, but its flesh is so crumbly that it melts in our mouths. According to Hungarian tradition, the most important spice for roast duck legs is rosemary, in addition we only use salt and pepper.

Plum dumplings

Hungarian plum dumplings, known as “szilvás gombóc” is made with freshly mashed potatoes that have been cooled. The dumplings are formed as balls with a whole plum or a slice of it inside. A great finishing touch is a buttered breadcrumb coating and a dusting with cinnamon sugar.

Strudel

“Rétes”, the Hungarian name of strudel comes from the word “réteges”, which means layered. Originally strudel used to be made by layering paper-thin sheets of dough with filling. The classic sweet fillings are apple, cottage cheese, poppy seeds, walnuts and sour cherries. Those who prefer salty foods can fill “rétes” with steamed cabbage, spinach or meat.
